Farmingville, NY - On December 1, people around the world are being asked to show their generosity and support for not-for-profit organizations and charities of their choice. This year, Dress for Success Brookhaven, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization which empowers women to achieve economic independence, will participate in #GivingTuesday. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Dress for Success fundraising platforms have been placed on hold and the #GivingTuesday Campaign will help programs to thrive and continue. This will enable women in need to maintain a network of support, have access to professional attire, as well as provide the developmental tools to help them succeed in the workplace and in life. Dress for Success also created an exciting new website where visitors can shop, donate and sponsor a woman in need.
Town of Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine said, “Until the Dress for Success Brookhaven boutique can fully re-open and face-to-face interactions can resume, we will make every effort to assist women and their families. While we are dealing with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dress for Success Brookhaven remains committed to providing virtual programs and services that help women ensure their economic stability.”
Dress for Success Brookhaven’s virtual offerings include client suiting, curbside pickup of professional attire for employment interviews, career coaching, virtual job readiness programs, employment networking and personal development workshops to help the women safeguard their economic stability and well-being. For more information or to shop, donate, sponsor a woman and more, visit the #GivingTuesday website.
About Dress for Success
Founded in New York City in 1997, Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization offering services designed to help clients find jobs and remain employed. Each Dress for Success client receives one suit when she has a job interview and can return when she finds work to receive a week’s worth of clothing. Brookhaven was the first affiliate to be established as part of the worldwide non-profit organization. The women we serve come from across Long Island. They are job ready women who have been referred by over 250 local non-profit organizations, including domestic violence agencies, veterans’ organizations, homeless shelters and job training programs.
Our mission is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Dress for Success Brookhaven is sponsored by the Town of Brookhaven Department of Housing and Human Services, Division of Women’s Services.
The Dress for Success Boutique is located at Brookhaven Town Hall, One Independence Hill in Farmingville. It is currently closed for in person visits, but open for “virtual” suiting appointments.
