Farmingville, NY - Town of Brookhaven Receiver of Taxes, Louis J. Marcoccia has announced changes in the way that residents can pay their taxes in-person at Town Hall. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Town Hall is closed to the public, but every department is staffed and open for business Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Property taxes can also be paid by mail or online using e-check or credit card. Receiver of Taxes Marcoccia said, “This year brings some health and safety challenges to our tax office operations and we have made some changes in order to provide for the safe social distancing of our taxpayers. I know many prefer to pay in person and to safely accommodate those individuals, we have provided two access points to receive payments here at Town Hall. Please keep in mind facial coverings and social distancing protocols will be in effect at all times.”

The changes to in-person payments include:

  • A convenient and secure 24 hour drop box located outside the front lobby of Town Hall. Taxpayers can simply deposit their payment inside the drop box. It will be processed, and a receipt will be mailed out on the next business day (No Cash, please).
  • An exterior walk-up customer counter located on the north side of Town Hall. Town staff will accept all payment types and provide a paid receipt for each transaction. The walk-up customer counter is staffed Monday thru Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  • In-person payment is available until Tuesday, June 1, 2020 (Closed Memorial Day, May 31)

The walk-up customer counter is partially open to the elements and people should plan accordingly for any weather conditions. Also, there is limited parking at Town Hall during busy periods.

There are other, more convenient and COVID-safe tax payment methods that can be done from home or office. For over 12 years, thousands of Brookhaven taxpayers have chosen the convenience and peace of mind that comes from paying their taxes online from a smartphone, tablet or personal computer. For the price of little more than a postage stamp (¢.75), an e-check payment generates an immediate confirmation that your payment has been processed. You can even print out a receipt for your records. For those who choose to pay by credit card, a processing fee of 2.35% will be charged by the bank. Payment by mail is also accepted if it is postmarked no later than January 11, 2021.
