Town Demolishes Two Abandoned Buildings on Montauk Highway in North Bellport

Town Seal

Farmingville, NY - On February 9, Councilman Michael Loguercio (pictured) was at 1465 Montauk Highway in North Bellport for the demolition of two abandoned and boarded up buildings that had become dilapidated after many years of neglect by the owner. The property was in violation of numerous Brookhaven Town building codes and the source of resident complaints. The buildings were demolished in accordance with Chapter 73 of the Town Code which provides a “fast track” to rid neighborhoods of unsafe structures. The cost of demolition and debris removal is the responsibility of the property owner, and the Town places a lien on the property that is then placed on the tax bill. The County reimburses the Town and then they collect the money from the property owner.

Councilman Loguercio said, “We are keeping our promise to redevelop the Montauk Highway corridor in North Bellport by removing these two eyesores and making room for businesses that will benefit the community. I will continue to work with the Town’s Law Department to identify and demolish more derelict buildings until it’s all cleaned up and improved for the residents who call North Bellport home.”
