Farmingville, NY – On April 22, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine and Councilwoman Jane Bonner celebrated Earth Day at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai by launching the new “Beach Clean-Up Station” pilot program. This new environmental effort allows beachgoers to take a basket on the beach, pick up trash, and deposit it into a trash receptacle. The “Beach Clean-Up Stations” are provided to the Town by Eastern Environmental Solutions, Inc. of Manorville, the financial sponsor of the program, in association with Relic Sustainability, Inc. of Remsenburg. Relic’s Coastal Collaborative currently encompasses seven pre-existing stations across Long Island.

Supervisor Romaine said, “Here on Earth Day, I ask everyone to do their part to keep our beaches litter free. We are happy to partner with Relic and Eastern Environmental Solutions on this very important program and I look forward to having Beach Clean-up Stations at all Town beaches soon. This is our earth, these are our beaches, so let’s keep them clean.”

Councilwoman Bonner said, “I cannot think of a better way to celebrate Earth Day than to launch a program that addresses the litter that plagues all of our beaches. I encourage people who come to Cedar Beach to use one of the baskets and pick up litter before they leave for home. It’s something we can all do to advocate for a better environment.”
