Stony Brook/Setauket, NY - Brookhaven Town Highway Superintendent Daniel P. Losquadro and Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich have announced the resurfacing of two heavily-traversed roadways in the Three Village area: Stony Brook Road in Stony Brook and North Belle Mead Road in Setauket.
Prior to paving, crews inspected drains and made concrete improvements, including replacing damaged sidewalks, curbing and aprons and installing new, ADA-compliant handicap ramps. In the North Belle Mead Road paving project, crews removed and replaced 1,200 linear feet of concrete curb, 5,350 square feet of concrete sidewalk and nearly 6,100 square feet of ADA-compliant ramps. The total cost for this paving project was approximately $750,600.
In the Stony Brook Road paving project, crews removed and replaced more than 5,300 square feet of concrete aprons and more than 1,500 linear feet of concrete curb before resurfacing Stony Brook Road from Nesconset Highway to Stony Brook Fire Station #2. The total cost for this project was approximately $493,000.
Superintendent Losquadro said, “These two paving projects involved very busy, main arterial roadways that had deteriorated and were in need of repair. We have greatly improved the safety of these roads for residents and motorists who travel in the area.”
Councilmember Kornreich said, “Investing and improving our roadways is one of the most fundamental services we can provide to enhance traffic safety, spur economic development, and beautify our communities. The resurfacing projects for Stony Brook Road and Belle Meade Road will help contribute to the overall vibrance of our hamlets. Every dollar spent on infrastructure has a multiplier effect, generating at least double the economic impact for local communities like Setauket & Stony Brook which creates more jobs.”
