Farmingville, NY - Councilwoman Jane Bonner has announced that the Town of Brookhaven’s Marine Environmental Stewardship Center will re-open on July 8 (view flyer) after being closed to the public for more than a year due to COVID-19 pandemic. The Town facility, also known as the Nature Center of Mt. Sinai Cedar Beach, will be open Thursday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm through Labor Day, September 6. Parking for the center is in the main lot at Cedar Beach, just a short walk to the west via the beach or walking trail. The Nature Center is a great place for residents of all ages to discover the unique ecology of Mt. Sinai Harbor, Cedar Beach and the Long Island Sound. There are many exhibits featuring the flora, fauna, and landscape of the Mount Sinai Harbor peninsula. Visitors can observe marine life in the Aquarium Tanks, learn and play on the interactive touchscreens in the Submarine Room, and learn how to be more eco-friendly at our Environmental Stewardship Displays. There is also a scenic boardwalk nearby, complete with informative, educational signs throughout. Groups are welcome for visits, tours or educational programs on weekdays by appointment only. Call 631-451-6639 or email npocchiare@brookhavenny.gov for more information.
Councilwoman Bonner said, “I am happy that the Nature Center will be open to the public again. It’s a wonderful place to learn about the environment and how we can help to protect it. I encourage everyone to come down to the center and Cedar Beach this summer. It is one of the most beautiful places on Long Island and a great place for the entire family to enjoy.”
