Coram, NY – Brookhaven Town Highway Superintendent Daniel P. Losquadro and Councilman Michael Loguercio have announced the completion of an eight-road paving project near Southaven County Park, just north of Sunrise Highway in Brookhaven and Yaphank.

Brookhaven Highway Department in-house crews completed all the concrete work for this project, including the replacement of 28 aprons, 100 linear feet of curb and the repair of six drains. While half of the roadways in this project were milled and paved, the remaining roadways required full-depth reclamation (FDR). A process reserved for roads with the most severe deterioration, FDR involves the total replacement and removal of a roadway, with 100% recycling of the old pavement, which essentially turns the old road into the new base. The total cost for this paving project was $693,000.

“The full depth reclamation process is an efficient, cost-effective way to resurface roadways that are in extremely poor condition. The process consists of pulverizing existing roadway with a machine that resembles a large rototiller and recycling the material to stabilize the existing soil and create a new base. This extensive project drastically improved the conditions of these roadways and will provide long-term relief to motorists and residents in the surrounding community.”

Councilman Loguercio said, “Once again I am extremely pleased to announce that Highway Superintendent Dan Losquadro and the Brookhaven Town Highway Department have completed another extensive paving project in the 4th Council District. This is in addition to so many other paving projects that we have completed this year, helping to make our roads safer, and adding to the beautification of yet another 4th Council District community!”

Roads paved during this project include Bay Street, Christine Lane, Forest Avenue, Gerard Road, Lime Avenue, Michelle Lane, Quaker Path and Strawberry Lane.
