[ARCHIVED] Town Demolishes “Zombie House” on Poospatuck Lane in Mastic Beach

Town Seal

Farmingville, NY – –On August 24, Councilman Dan Panico (left) and County Legislator Jim Mazarella (right) were on-hand when the Town of Brookhaven demolished a vacant and abandoned “zombie house” at 108 Poospatuck Lane in Mastic Beach. The long-abandoned house was the source of resident complaints leading to numerous Town of Brookhaven housing code violations. There were also a number of abandoned vehicles on the property that were towed away by the Town. The property was seized by Suffolk County as a property tax forfeiture, transferred to the Town for demolition and now it will be preserved as open space.

Councilman Dan Panico said, “Block by block, we are removing the blight and decay throughout Brookhaven Town, improving the quality of life and raising property values. It will be a great day when we can declare that there are no more demolitions to occur. We aren’t there yet, but I am confident we will get there.”

To report a “zombie house” in Brookhaven Town, go to www.BrookhavenNY.gov or call 631-451-TOWN (8696).
