Selden, NY – Brookhaven Town Highway Superintendent Daniel P. Losquadro and Councilman Kevin LaValle have announced the completion of a $1.6-million, 11-road paving project in Selden.
As part of this project, heavily-traveled College Road was resurfaced from Middle Country Road to Mooney Pond Road. Prior to paving, crews cleaned drains and made concrete improvements, including replacing damaged concrete sidewalks, curbing and aprons. Crews removed and replaced 7,180 linear feet of concrete curb, 24,845 square feet of concrete sidewalk, 726 square feet of ADA-compliant handicap ramps, and 16,592 square feet of concrete aprons, at a cost of approximately $757,000. Additionally, three new drains were installed on College Road to alleviate flooding concerns at a cost of approximately $33,000. Also, as part of this paving project, crews are in the process of rebuilding the traffic signal at Mooney Pond Road and Roberta Avenue in Farmingville.
The total cost for this paving project was approximately $1.675 million, a portion of which – $97,757 – was funded by a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).
In addition to College Road, the following roadways were resurfaced during this paving project: Ambassador Lane; Cherry Street; Elmwood Avenue; Galaxie Lane; Linden Street; a small portion of Mooney Pond Road at the intersection of College Road; Palm Street; Parkwood Lane; Spruceton Street; and Willow Street.
Superintendent Losquadro said, “This project involved a great deal of concrete improvements, particularly the replacement of damaged sidewalk, prior to paving. In addition, College Road is very heavily-traversed and was in great need of resurfacing. I am very grateful we were able to include its resurfacing, along with the other 10 roadways, in our 2021 paving season.”
Councilman LaValle said, “I thank Superintendent Losquadro and the Highway Department for repaving the roadways in this Selden neighborhood, making it safer for all who travel them. The Town is committed to improving our infrastructure and we will be completing more projects like this in the future.”
