Meet Doedoe, he arrived because his family is no longer able to take care of him. He has a tough story like so many others, this isn't his first time here. His originally family suffered a tragic loss a few years ago and a family member took him in from us. However, they now find themselves in a position to have to give him up and hope that he finds his hero. He is deaf, so on one hand it makes the constant barking and noise of the shelter more tolerable for him. On the other hand being deaf leaves him vulnerable to being nervous in the shelter and getting startled because he may not hear you approaching. If he is sleeping in his run we have to make sure we jiggle the door so he feels the vibration and wakes up before we open the door or go into his run. Doedoe will do best with a schedule and the consistency of a routine. According to his previous family he knows sit and lay down if you use hand signals. He can be a bit shy but warms up quickly especially with new people. Here is where the story takes yet another turn when Doedoe arrived back at the shelter had some masses that needed to be addressed. They were removed and after biopsy we learned that he had Mast Cell tumors. The results came back as a Mast Cell tumors, grade II (low grade). The surgery resulted in good margins and a complete excision of the tumors. He will need to be monitored and if any lumps or bumps arise it will require a Vet visit. He loves to be with you and sit right next to you, he will happily position himself so he can get the best possible back scratches. Doedoe is hoping to find his hero, the love of his life who will keep him safe and supply him any care he may need. He deserves a chance at a good life with a human to love and a place to call his own. He is housebroken, crate trained and he will do best as the only pet in an adult household. He just needs a chance. Doedoe is 75 pounds, 8 to 9 years young, up to date on vaccinations, neutered, micro-chipped and heartworm negative.
