Farmingville, NY – On April 12, Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich (left) was on hand for the demolition of a vacant house located at 40 Dyke Road in East Setauket. The property, which will be preserved as open space, is owned by the State of New York. The demolition was handled by the Town of Brookhaven’s Department of Recycling and Sustainable Materials Management staff, including (second from left to right) Vincent Gallino, Vinny Guarino, Jose Marrero and Thomas Sternberg.
Councilmember Kornreich said, “This is an example of what I call negative development. There are places where preservation and conservation are important, and this is one of them. Today, the Town is taking a stand against suburban sprawl and overdevelopment to reclaim valuable land for conservation purposes. I commend our Law Department for their efforts to move this demolition forward, protect the environment and improve the quality of life in Council District 1.”
