Farmingville, NY – On July 6, Supervisor Ed Romaine and Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich were at Port Jefferson Harbor to take the first ride on the Town’s new 31’ EMT Special Purpose Vessel. This new Harbormaster boat improves the maritime security of Town waterways, protects the boating public and critical infrastructure by responding quickly and efficiently to emergencies, rescues, natural disasters and more. The vessel’s technology greatly improves the effectiveness of addressing environmental concerns such as fishing and shell fishing enforcement. It also enhances the Harbormaster’s capability to work alongside the United States Coast Guard and other agencies during search and rescue operations. To purchase the vessel, the Town of Brookhaven successfully applied for and received a Port Security Grant issued by DHS/FEMA to purchase the new, 31’ state of the are patrol vessel to replace the Towns older 27’ patrol boat.
