Supervisor Romaine and Councilwoman Bonner Visit Senior Congregate Meal Program at Rose Caracappa

Farmingville, NY – -On August 4, Supervisor Ed Romaine and Councilwoman Jane Bonner visited the Rose Caracappa Senior Center in Mount Sinai to meet with senior residents who participate in the Town of Brookhaven’s Congregate Meal program. The program returned on August 1 after more than a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Nutrition Program provides residents ages 60 and over with a nutritious mid-day meal and the opportunity to participate in a variety of social, recreational, and educational activities. There are no income guidelines for this program, only a suggested voluntary and anonymous contribution of $2 for lunch. During the COVID-19 pandemic, seniors who participated in the Congregate Meal Program received a home delivered meal through Brookhaven Town’s enhanced Home Delivered Meal Program. During the height of the pandemic, the program was providing approximately 500 meals a day. The program is open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Transportation may be available for those who qualify. Per New York State Law, masks must be worn by those taking public transportation. If you do not have a mask, one will be provided for you. There is a suggested voluntary and anonymous contribution of $1 for transportation.
