Town Demolishes Vacant “Zombie House” on Maywood Drive in Mastic Beach

Town Seal

Farmingville, NY – -On August 15, Councilman Dan Panico (left) and Suffolk County Legislator Jim Mazzarella (right) were on-hand for the Town of Brookhaven’s demolition of a vacant ‘zombie house” located at 11 Maywood Drive in Mastic Beach. The house, which had been vacant for many years, was the source of numerous resident complaints. It was seized by Suffolk County as a property tax forfeiture. An Inter-Municipal Agreement (IMA) was established between the Town of Brookhaven and Suffolk County for the demolition and removal of the debris. The property will remain vacant and preserved as open space.

Councilman Panico said, “Hamlet by hamlet and block by block, we have succeeded in eliminated blighted vacant structures, whether by demolition or revitalization. In Brookhaven we are winning the war on suburban blight.”
