Holtsville, NY - Supervisor Edward Romaine and Superintendent of Highways Daniel P. Losquadro invite Town residents to kick off the summer by attending the Run Wild - 5K Run/Walk "Fur" the Animals, followed by the Annual Movin' In Brookhaven day of free fitness classes and programs on Saturday, June 10, 2017.

The 5K Run/Walk supports two organizations working to help animals in need: the Brookhaven Wildlife Center, Inc. and the Kaeli Kramer Foundation. The Brookhaven Wildlife Center, Inc. is the sole provider of food and veterinary care for the more than 100 injured and non-releasable wild and farm animals residing at the Holtsville Ecology Site. The Kaeli Kramer Foundation provides sanctuary for farm animals and horses, including mustangs Callie and Valor, who live at the Ecology Site year-round.

The 5K will begin at the Ecology Site, 249 Buckley Road, Holtsville; registration/check in is at 7:30 a.m. and the race begins at 9 a.m. For ages 10 to adult; top three male and female overall winners and top three male and female winners in individual age groups will receive awards. Pre-register online by June 9 for $25; $30 day of the race. Sweet tech t-shirts guaranteed to the first 100 registered.

Following the race, Brookhaven Town's Annual Movin' In Brookhaven will begin at 10:30 a.m. The day's activities include free fitness classes, an arts and crafts fair, a Chinese auction, free health screenings, vendors, a farmer's market, kids' crafts, face painting, a puppet show and animal education programs. In the event of rain, all activities will be moved indoors to the Ecology Site buildings. Parking is free throughout the day; vendors are welcome.
