Farmingville, NY – On Saturday, September 10, Supervisor Ed Romaine (standing second from right) and Councilman Kevin LaValle (left) were on hand to celebrate Opening Day of the League of YES at the Town of Brookhaven’s Rose Caracappa Park. The League of Yes’ mission is to establish and sustain baseball programs for people of all ages with disabilities. Their objective is to provide an opportunity for those individuals to experience the joy and benefits that come from playing our national pastime. The league’s aim is to help the players develop social skills and increase self-esteem while promoting community support and sponsorship for the league. The new ballfield at Rose Caracappa Park has recently been resurfaced and made more accessible for athletes with special needs. Also pictured with the Supervisor and Councilman are Kristine Fitzpatrick, League of Yes Executive Director (kneeling), coaches and players.

The Rose Caracappa Park, located on South Bicycle Path in Farmingville, has two ballfields. One was upgraded in 2021 to an all-abilities accessible 50 Foot Baseball and Multi-Use Synthetic Turf Field with a $250,000 grant from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant Program. The second field had the asphalt redone, restriped, new fencing was added, and the field was extended to make room for a handicap accessible playground. The League of YES is for individuals with special abilities and operates on fields throughout the Town of Brookhaven. For more information about the League of YES, go to www.leagueofyes.org.
