Councilwoman Bonner Leads Tour at Nature Center with Disability Task Force Member Glenn Campbell

Two people in wheelchairs on mobimat on beach

Farmingville, NY - Recently, Councilwoman Jane Bonner led a tour of the Town's Marine Environmental Stewardship Center to demonstrate how it is accessible for people with disabilities. Joining her on the tour was Town of Brookhaven Disabilities Task Force member Glenn Campbell and the Town's Assistant Waterways Management Supervisor, Tom Carrano. The Councilwoman and Mr. Carrano brought Mr. Campbell throughout the center from the wheelchair accessible ramp to enter the building, the mural room, beach display, submarine room, picnic table area, touch tank and nature walk. All are fully wheelchair accessible including the restroom. Councilwoman Bonner also showed Mr. Campbell the beach accessible wheelchair with oversized wheels so it can be used in the sand and MobiMat, a portable roll-out ADA beach access pathway for wheelchairs and pedestrians.

Councilwoman Bonner said, "The Nature Center at Cedar Beach is a wonderful place to learn about the environment and how we can help to protect it. I was happy to bring Glenn along for a tour and I encourage everyone, including our residents with disabilities, to come down to the center and the beach. This is one of the most beautiful spots in the Town of Brookhaven."
