Farmingville, NY – – On February 11, Supervisor Ed Romaine (right) attended Stony Brook Fire Department’s Annual Installation Dinner at Flowerfield in St. James to honor the company’s members for their service to the community. The Supervisor also paid tribute to 62-year member and former Chief Walter Hazlit, who passed away on November 27, 2022, only five days from his 97th birthday. The Supervisor honored Mr. Hazlit’s memory with a proclamation that recognized milestones in his life, including his service in the US Marine Corps during World War II; as an original member of the Suffolk County Legislator (District 5); Stony Brook Fire Department Commissioner; Suffolk County Community College Board member and more. He was also a 75-year member of the Stony Brook Yacht Club. Pictured with Supervisor Romaine is Walter Hazlit’s daughter, Justice Elizabeth Hazlitt Emerson.
