Farmingville, NY – – On April 1, Supervisor Ed Romaine (at the podium) was a guest speaker during “The Flavors of Ramadan” celebration held by the American Muslims of Suffolk County at Vajiradhammapadip Temple in Centereach. It was their inaugural iftar celebration (breaking fast). Iftar is the fast-breaking evening meal of Muslims in Ramadan at the time of adhan of the Maghrib prayer. This is their second meal of the day; the daily fast during Ramadan begins immediately after the pre-dawn meal of suhur and continues during the daylight hours, ending at sunset with the evening meal of iftar. At the ceremony Supervisor Romaine spoke of the proud heritage of the Muslim community, their unique customs and the need to end religious intolerance around the world.
