Farmingville, NY - On April 1, Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich (third from right) visited the Vajiradhammapadip Temple in Centereach.to celebrate “The Flavors of Ramadan” with the American Muslims of Suffolk County. The event was held during their inaugural Iftar celebration. Iftar is the fast-breaking evening meal of Muslims in Ramadan at the time of adhan of the Maghrib prayer. It is their second meal of the day; the daily fast during Ramadan begins immediately after the pre-dawn meal of suhur and continues during the daylight hours, ending at sunset with the evening meal of iftar.
Councilmember Kornreich said, “I thank the American Muslims of Suffolk County for inviting me to be a guest at their celebration of the Flavors of Ramadan. We are fortunate to have such a large Muslim community that contributes so much to the cultural mosaic that is the Town of Brookhaven. Familiarity and respect for our diverse customs, cultures and traditions is what makes this country great.”
