Farmingville, NY - On April 13, Deputy Supervisor Dan Panico (back row, right) and Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich (back row, left) joined students from the Three Village School District to celebrate Brookhaven Town Founders Day at the Setauket Village Green, the original settlement area. Founders Day 2023 was a two-day program (April 13 and 14) for the 4th graders. It started in the Setauket School auditorium and then the classes walked the area and stopped at the Setauket Village Green, where they were met by the Deputy Supervisor and Councilmember.

The original deed for the Town of Brookhaven is dated April 14, 1655 and the original Dongan Patent is dated December 27, 1686. The Dongan Patent is the historic and legal document that provided the foundation for Brookhaven Town government. It provided for the election of the Town Clerk and other officials, as well as establishing a town seal. In addition, the Dongan Patent is used to this day to resolve many legal questions involving preservation of natural resources and our underground water supply, as well as the free and common usage of our waterways.
