Neighbors Thank Councilman Loguercio as Town Demolishes “Zombie House” in Middle Island

Farmingville, NY – On February 7, Councilman Michael Loguercio (right) was joined by thankful neighborhood residents at the demolition of a vacant “Zombie House” located at 10 Herdman Court in Middle Island. The house, which was vacant and abandoned for many years, was the source of numerous resident complaints and Town building code violations dating back to 2012. It was demolished in accordance with Chapter 73 of the Town Code which provides a “fast track” to rid neighborhoods of unsafe structures. The cost of demolition and debris removal is the responsibility of the property owner, and the Town places a lien on the property that is then placed on the tax bill. The County reimburses the Town and then they collect the money from the property owner.

Councilman Loguercio said, “I appreciate that many of the residents came out this morning to acknowledge the Town’s efforts to rid their neighborhood of this eyesore. Houses like this one impact negatively on the quality of life and property values in the community and I thank our Law Department and Department of Recycling and Sustainable Materials Management for helping to clean up my Council District and all of Brookhaven Town.”
