Farmingville, NY – On May 6, Supervisor Ed Romaine had the honor to speak at the Sons of the American Revolution’s unveiling of the 250th anniversary sign and wreath laying ceremony at Olde Beachfern Cemetery in Center Moriches. This small, historic cemetery, located near the intersection of Main Street and Beachfern Road in Center Moriches, holds the remains of five Revolutionary patriots. The earliest burial appears to be Charity Havens in 1774 and the last burial was that of Abigail Post in 1843.

Supervisor Romaine, who is a former history teacher, spoke of the patriots who founded the Town of Brookhaven and how their lives were dedicated to our freedom, “Brookhaven Town was a patriotic stronghold whose residents played such a big part in the Revolutionary War, both on the battlefield and on the home front. It is truly an honor to speak at this ceremony and to have the opportunity to stand on the hallowed ground where those patriots rest in peace.”
