Farmingville, NY – On May 31, Town Clerk Kevin J. LaValle announced the start of the multi-million-dollar renovation of the Town’s Regional Record Center located in Bellport. The state-of-the-art improvements include temperature and humidity controls to meet New York Archival Standards; fire suppression improvements; additional security upgrades; workstations for digitizing records and additional storage space for villages and other local municipalities. The renovations will be done in four phases and is expected to take up to 8 months to complete. Once the renovation is complete, the Town of Brookhaven will have a modern, state-of-the-art government record storage facility with no equal. I thank the Supervisor and Town Board for their support of this groundbreaking project and I look forward to its completion.”Supervisor Romaine said, “Town Clerk LaValle has been in office only a few months, but he has already made a big impact by pushing ahead on the renovations at very little cost to Brookhaven Town taxpayers. I encourage other municipal agencies to contact the Town Clerk and tour our records storage facility to see if the services offered are a right fit.”The building purchase of $2,900,000 was paid for by a New York State MCEP Grant (Municipal Consolidation and Efficiency). The cost of improvements including HVAC ($405,000), Plumbing and Fire Suppression ($246,000), are paid for with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grants; Engineering and Construction ($2,130,000) are paid with bonds (grant application pending). The total cost of the building purchase and improvements is $5,681,000.
