Farmingville, NY –  On May 31, Town Clerk Kevin J. LaValle announced the start of the multi-million-dollar renovation of the Town’s Regional Record Center located in Bellport. The state-of-the-art improvements include temperature and humidity controls to meet New York Archival Standards; fire suppression improvements; additional security upgrades; workstations for digitizing records and additional storage space for villages and other local municipalities. Town Clerk LaValle said, “We have rows and rows of hard copy records that we don’t need on a regular basis, but they must be safely preserved, stored and copied digitally for easy access. Once the renovation is complete, the Town of Brookhaven will have a modern, state-of-the-art government record storage facility with no equal. I thank the Supervisor and Town Board for their support of this groundbreaking project and I look forward to its completion.”

Supervisor Romaine said, “Town Clerk LaValle has been in office only a few months, but he has already made a big impact by pushing ahead on the renovations at very little cost to Brookhaven Town taxpayers. I encourage other municipal agencies to contact the Town Clerk and tour our records storage facility to see if the services offered are a right fit.”

The building purchase of $2,900,000 was paid for by a New York State MCEP Grant (Municipal Consolidation and Efficiency). The cost of improvements including HVAC ($405,000), Plumbing and Fire Suppression ($246,000), are paid for with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grants; Engineering and Construction ($2,130,000) are paid with bonds (grant application pending). The total cost of the building purchase and improvements is $5,681,000. The renovation upgrades to the Town of Brookhaven Regional Record Center include Security, Electrical, Architectural, Plumbing, Fire Suppression and Alarms, Lighting, Vault Space, Climate and Humidity Controls, Additional Workstations and Storage for villages and other local municipalities and an all-new mezzanine level that can effectively increase storage capacity by 80-85%
