[ARCHIVED] Brookhaven Animal Shelter and Adoption Center To Hold Free Rabies Clinic on July 29

Farmingville, NY –  The Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, Suffolk County Department of Health Services and the TNR Task Force will hold a Free Rabies Clinic on Saturday, July 29 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. It includes free rabies vaccine for dogs, cats and ferrets as well as dog and cat FVRCP or DAPPCV vaccines. Dogs must be on a leash and cats/ferrets in a carrier. No appointment needed. The Brookhaven Animal Shelter and Adoption Center is located at 300 Horseblock Road in Brookhaven. It is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, Saturday 10:00 am to 3:30 pm and Sunday 11:00 am to 3:30 pm.

According to the Centers for Disease Control website (, rabies is a fatal but preventable viral disease. It can spread to people and pets if they are bitten or scratched by a rabid animal. Rabies can be prevented by vaccinating pets, staying away from wildlife, and seeking medical care after potential exposures before symptoms start.
