Farmingville, NY – The Town of Brookhaven Youth Bureau has announced that due to an overwhelming response, registration is now closed for the Youth Mental Health First Aid Workshop “in-person” event scheduled for January 18 at Brookhaven Town Hall. To accommodate those who still want to attend, a live “virtual” workshop is being offered on January 18. To log onto the Virtual Youth Mental Health First Aid Workshop, go to BrookhavenNY.gov/VirtualWorkshop.Through role-playing and simulations, this course teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge and connect young people to professional, peer, social and self-help care. The Youth Mental Health First Aid Workshop is designed for adults (teachers, school staff, coaches, youth group leaders, parents and more) who regularly interact with adolescents. It teaches the risk factors and warning signs of mental health challenges common among adolescents and youth (ages 12-18).
