Farmingville, NY – On Tuesday, March 28, Brookhaven Town Councilman Kevin J. LaValle will host the New York State Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Program at the Selden Fire Department headquarters located at 44 Woodmere Place in Selden. At the event, representatives from the National Guard and Department of Homeland Security will discuss what to do, and what not to do, in case of an emergency. The two hour training session will provide residents with the tools and resources to prepare them for any type of disaster, respond accordingly and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions. Each family participating will receive a free Citizen Preparedness Corps Response Starter Kit.
“Brookhaven Town has two coastlines and we are susceptible to hurricanes, nor’easters, flooding and other natural disasters,” said Councilman LaValle. “This event will help residents prepare themselves and protect their property. Most importantly, what they learn from the professionals can also save lives.”
The Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Program is co-sponsored by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the Selden, Centereach, Farmingville and Ronkonkoma fire departments. Those who wish to attend must pre-register at www.prepare.ny.gov. For more information, call the office of Councilman Kevin LaValle at 631-451-6647.
