Farmingville, NY –  Recently, Councilwomen Valerie M. Cartright (standing, left) and Jane Bonner (standing, right) attended the installation of officers of the Vigiano Brothers Lodge #3436 Order Sons of Italy in America. The event, held at the Town's Rose Caracappa Senior Center, was attended by friends, family, lodge presidents and dignitaries who celebrated with the officers and members. The Vigiano Brothers Lodge was founded in 2008 and was named for Port Jefferson residents John Vigiano Jr., a New York City firefighter, and Joseph Vigiano, a New York City police detective. On September 11, 2001, both Vigiano brothers responded to the call to the World Trade Center, and both were killed while saving others. The lodge holds various fundraising and social events throughout the year, and the money raised is used for scholarship awards for local students. In addition, money is donated to several charities supported by the Order Sons of Italy in America.

"It is my privilege to attend the installation of officers tonight. I thank immediate past president Rotoli for the invitation. The Order of Sons of Italy in America is the oldest and largest organization of Italian American men and women in the United States and this lodge does commendable work in our area including providing scholarships to students," stated Councilwoman Cartright. "The Italian culture is one that so many Americans identify with and celebrate, and we are fortunate to have this lodge in operation in our community," the Councilwoman added.

“As always, it was a pleasure to spend time with my friends from the Sons of Italy,” said Councilwoman Jane Bonner. “They are a very community-minded organization who are ready to help whenever needed. Congratulations to all the incoming officers and thank you to the outgoing officers for your service.”

Last November, the Town of Brookhaven hosted the first "Taste of Italy – An Italian American Heritage and Culture Event," which was co-sponsored by the Order Sons of Italy.
