Farmingville, NY –  “At approximately 8:30 a.m. on Friday morning, an ambulance from the Mastic Ambulance Company pulled into the Emergency Room entrance of Brookhaven Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in East Patchogue. Shortly thereafter, smoke was observed coming from the vehicle, which subsequently caught fire. The fire was quickly extinguished by the Hagerman Fire Department with assistance from multiple Mutual Aid fire departments.

According to Brookhaven Fire Marshals, smoke from this fire was limited to a portion of the triage area of the Emergency Room, and damage from the fire was contained to the ambulance and the ambulance bay overhang. No damage was done to the hospital building.

Brookhaven Fire Marshals and building inspectors responded to the scene to provide assistance. No patients were evacuated from the hospital, and normal operations of the emergency room resumed by 10:00 a.m. Brookhaven Town building inspectors are assessing the damage to the ambulance bay overhang to insure that it is structurally sound and safe for use.”
