Farmingville, NY –  Recently, Councilwoman Jane Bonner and Town Clerk Donna Lent were on hand for the grand opening of the Suffolk County Association for Habilitation and Residential Care (AHRC) Sensory Garden in Shoreham. It is the AHRC’s first sensory garden and it was built with donations of money and services by local companies and organizations. Local Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts also participated in the construction of the garden which provides individual and combined sensory opportunities for people with special needs through sight, sound, taste, touch and smell. The goal of the garden is to bring people of all abilities together from local communities and schools to take a stroll through their senses. To learn more about AHRC Suffolk’s Sensory Garden and to plan a trip, call the AHRC Foundation Office at 631-585-0100. For more information about the Suffolk County AHRC, visit www.ahrcsuffolk.org.
