[ARCHIVED] Supervisor Romaine Announces Free Seminar for Prospective College Students

Farmingville, NY - On March 7, the Brookhaven Youth Bureau and Suffolk Community College will host a free seminar for parents and students who are interested in enrolling in college. Representatives from Suffolk Community College will discuss the college application process, financial aid opportunities and scholarship opportunities. The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Brookhaven Town Hall third floor media room, located at 1 Independence Hill in Farmingville.

Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine said, “It’s that time of the year when parents and their children need to make very important decisions about the future. Thanks to this event, they will be able to navigate much more easily through the system.”

“Suffolk Community College offers more than 100 programs across three campuses and two downtown centers in our county,” said Suffolk Community College President Dr. Shaun L. McKay. “We provide an affordable, high quality education that can provide students with a stepping stone toward a four year institution. The college also offers a host of grant and scholarship programs. I urge students to learn more about all that Suffolk has to offer.”

Councilmember Michael Loguercio, who serves as Town Board Liaison to the Youth Bureau, said “I remember going through the college selection process with my children, so I recommend that parents and students attend this event. It will get them off to a good start and help them to make the right choices.”

The seminar will take approximately a half hour. Directly after the seminar portion of the program, there will be time for questions and further information for those in attendance. Participants are asked to register in advance with the Brookhaven Youth Bureau by Friday, March 3 by calling 631-451-8011.
