Farmingville, NY - On March 7, Councilman Michael Logeurcio and the Brookhaven Youth Bureau held the first Free College Seminar Program at Brookhaven Town Hall. This event was so successful that there will be a second program planned for later this year. Approximately 100 residents participated as representatives from Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) discussed the college application process, financial aid and scholarship opportunities, and the various programs and services the college offers to students.
Councilman Michael Loguercio, who serves as the Town Board liaison to the Youth Bureau said, “It was great to see so many people participating in our first College Seminar Program. This is a time when families need to make some very important academic and financial decisions, and we can help them navigate through the system. This one was such a success and I look forward to our next event.”
Most of the information discussed could be applied to the overall college application and financial aid process. Parents and students actively engaged in the seminar by asking questions and taking notes. Several participants stayed after the end of the presentation to ask the SCCC representative questions and obtain material that will help them start the college application process.
