Farmingville, NY - On May 2, Supervisor Ed Romaine (left) and Commissioner of Housing and Human Services Alison Karrpi (right) attended the graduation of the Town of Brookhaven Women’s Services Division Career EDGE. This program is designed to help unemployed and under-employed women gain professional skills, accelerate their job search and build confidence through weekly training sessions, one-on-one career coaching and networking in a supportive environment. Career EDGE is facilitated by Rita Kiernan.
The six-session program covered:
- Strategies to succeed in today’s job market
- Customizing and composing your resumé and cover letters that will make a difference
- Work with a professional career mentor
- Navigating LinkedIn and other social media for job leads, and much more
Supervisor Romaine said, “Congratulations to all the women who graduated from the Career Edge program and I wish them the best of luck in the future. Our Women’s Services Division does an excellent job helping women from all walks of life to move ahead and succeed. I commend our staff and volunteers for their commitment to making life better for our residents.”
Participants also had the opportunity to work one-on-one with professional career coaches and build a personal network in a small, supportive environment with other women. Founded in New York City in 1997, Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization offering services designed to help clients find jobs and remain employed. The Dress for Success Boutique is located at Brookhaven Town Hall, One Independence Hill in Farmingville. It is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on selected Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All client visits are by appointment only.
