Councilman Panico Announces New Energy Efficient Lighting Installed at Brookhaven Aquatic Center in

Farmingville, NY - On January 10, Councilman Dan Panico visited the Brookhaven Aquatic Center in Mastic to inspect the newly installed energy efficient lighting system. The installation is part of Supervisor Romaine’s “Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Initiative,” a 5-year Capital Plan to achieve a 50% reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 2020. The plan, which the Supervisor announced in his 2015 State of the Town Address, focuses on Town-owned Buildings and Facilities, Traffic Controls, Street Lights and Town Vehicles. The Town has already installed new energy efficient lighting fixtures at Town Hall, Brookhaven Calabro Airport and the Animal Shelter. The more than 200 new fixtures at the Aquatic Center replaced inefficient fixtures with new lighting that is 70% more energy efficient than the old ones and produce a whiter, brighter light. All work was completed by Town employees, saving the Town more than $14,000. The Town will receive a $15,000 rebate from PSEG for installing the new system.

Councilman Panico said, "When it comes to the cost of electricity and power consumption, no one can afford to be inefficient. These new lights are yet another example of the Town's dedication and commitment to a greener Brookhaven. I commend our skilled Parks' Department crews for doing this work in-house."
