Councilwoman Bonner Announces Hoops for Hope Barbecue and Basketball Tournament Fundraiser

Councilwoman Bonner Announces Hoops for Hope Barbecue and Basketball Tournament

Farmingville, NY - Councilwoman Jane Bonner has announced that the Town of Brookhaven will co-sponsor the annual Jake Engel “Hoops for Hope Barbecue” basketball tournament at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai on Friday, August 4 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The fundraiser is a barbecue and friendly basketball tournament designed to bring together a community that has been hit hard by the heroin epidemic, to raise money for a scholarship in Jake Engel's name, and to raise money for Hope House Ministries. The fundraiser was established in 2015 after Jake Engel’s death from a heroin overdose. Pictured left to right are Patrick Engel, Councilwoman Bonner, Geoff Engel and Father Frank Pizzarelli, founder, CEO and Executive Director of Hope House Ministries. The event is free to all and includes a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, barbeque style food, games, raffles and music.

Councilwoman Bonner said, “Heroin addiction has destroyed so many lives in our community and it’s a growing threat to our young people. The Engel family and Father Frank have shown us that we cannot just stand by and watch it happen. That’s why I support their efforts and ask everyone to get involved, come to the Hoops for Hope Barbecue and help your neighbors in need.”
