Town of Brookhaven and LI Farm Bureau Celebrate Grand Opening of Weekly Farmers Market at Town Hall

Farmingville, NY - On Thursday, June 7, Supervisor Ed Romaine and Karl Novak, President of the Long Island Farm Bureau, held a press conference to announce the grand opening of the new, weekly Farmers Market at Brookhaven Town Hall in Farmingville. The weekly market has been established to encourage residents to buy Long Island fruits and vegetables and bring attention to the Town’s many farms and the produce grown right in the consumer’s backyard. In addition to selling fresh produce, the market will promote wine, flowers, seafood and other Long Island products and encourage people to visit farms and support their local growers. The weekly Farmers Market will be open 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. every Thursday from June 7 to October 25.

Supervisor Romaine said, “Brookhaven Town has some of the most productive farmland in the state, so it’s important that we encourage people to buy local. I thank the Long Island Farm Bureau and the farmers who are participating in the Farmers Market for making healthy, fresh produce easily available to our residents.”

Mr. Novak said, “Long Island farmers work hard all season to grow some of the best fruits, vegetable, horticultural products and cuisine, while providing the public with the backdrop for a rural quality of life. Locally grown and produced products are some of the freshest and best tasting in the marketplace. Additionally, our craft beverage producers are innovative and making nationally recognized wines, beers, and distilled beverages which are available right in our own back yard. We encourage all residents to support our farmers and buy ‘Grown on Long Island.’ We would also like to thank Supervisor Romaine, and his staff as well as the Town Board for their continued support of the farm community in the Town.”
