Farmingville, NY - On August 23, Congressman Lee Zeldin joined Supervisor Ed Romaine to deliver “Meals on Wheels” to residents at Leisure Village in Ridge. The Congressman and Supervisor were warmly welcomed into the homes and assured the residents of their strong support for the “Meals on Wheels” program. “Meals on Wheels” is a nationwide network of community-based, non-profit programs dedicated to providing seniors in the community with the support that enables them to remain living independently in their own homes. The Town of Brookhaven’s Nutrition Program provides over 3,000 meals per month through our home-delivered meals and our two congregate dining sites. Menus are prepared by a registered dietician in accordance with Health Department Meal Service Standards. Our volunteers work in conjunction with the Town of Brookhaven’s Jitney transportation program to distribute the home-delivered meals. Our two nutrition centers also provide residents with the opportunity to socialize and participate in a variety of activities, including games, dancing, exercise, movies and trips. The Town of Brookhaven Nutrition Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, New York State and the Suffolk County Office for the Aging.
