Farmingville, NY - On January 14, Supervisor Ed Romaine and Councilwoman Jane Bonner honored Boy Scout James Snider from Troop 1776 during the Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony held at Mount Sinai High School. For his Eagle Scout project, James transformed a “blank” piece of land into a beautiful memorial garden at the Port Jefferson Emergency Medical Service center located in Mount Sinai. Starting with nothing but grass and a tree, James created a relaxing sitting area complete with chairs and a table, a large stepping stone path and handmade wooden benches. He also planted rose bushes along the back of the garden. It was made complete with a memorial stone in the front of the garden.
“Congratulations to James for completing his project and achieving the rank of Eagle Scout,” said Supervisor Romaine. “Scouts like James are the leaders of tomorrow, and from what I can see of this outstanding young man, I say that we’ll be in good hands.
"Leadership, hard work, and dedication to the community are what it means to be an Eagle Scout," said Councilwoman Bonner. "I commend James for his achievement. He is a wonderful example for younger Scouts and his peers to follow."
Since the award was presented in 1912, no more than four % of all Scouts have attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Since its introduction in 1911, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by more than two million young men.
