Farmingville, NY - On Tuesday, March 27, the Town of Brookhaven will host the Self-Direction Listening Forums presented by Self Advocacy Association of New York State (SANYS) for self-advocates, parents and family members from the Long Island region. A major responsibility of SANYS is to stay connected with people and help ensure that all individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) in New York State can lead lives as independent and self-determined as they can. For many individuals and families, this is achieved through Self-Direction.
Residents who receive Self-Direction Services should attend one of the two listening sessions at Brookhaven Town Hall to learn more and provide feedback. The morning session runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the evening session runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Town Hall is located at One Independence Hill in Farmingville. For more information, interested persons should contact SANYS Long Island at 631-434-6936 or 631-335-9142. They can also email SANYS.
On September 30, 2014, Supervisor Ed Romaine and the Town Board unanimously passed resolution 2014-672 establishing the Town of Brookhaven’s Disability Task Force. The mission of the Task Force is to focus on coordination, collaboration and communication, and to provide the Town Board with information and recommendations. They also advise the Town in its continuing efforts to offer equal opportunities for residents with disabilities to be active members of our community.
