Brookhaven Highway Department Breaks Ground On $1.8-Million Truck Wash Facility

Brookhaven Highway Department Breaks Ground On 1.8-Million Truck Wash Facility

Coram, NY - Brookhaven Town Highway Superintendent Daniel P. Losquadro recently joined with Deputy Superintendents Kevin Geiger and Steve Tricarico for the groundbreaking of a truck wash facility at the Coram Highway yard, located at 1140 Old Town Road. The $1.8-million building - the first of its kind to be built on-site for a municipality on Long Island - will protect the department’s fleet against corrosion and extend the lifetime of its heavy equipment.

“This new facility will allow the Highway Department to remove salt and contaminants from our vehicles, especially after winter storms, using a recycled wash system,” Losquadro said. “This will enable a thorough cleaning of the vehicle, including the undercarriage, while preventing high concentrations of sodium chloride and hydrocarbons from entering our sole source aquifer. The facility will be further environmentally-friendly by introducing under 25 gallons of fresh water per wash.”
