Farmingville, NY – On July 4, amidst crowds of participants and waving flags, Brookhaven Councilwoman Valerie M. Cartright celebrated Independence Day and marched in the annual Port Jefferson Fourth of July parade. The route bounded down Main Street through Port Jefferson Village to the cheers of onlookers and included fire departments, civic and fraternal groups, floats and the “Wholly Brass Band.”

Councilwoman Cartright said, "The Fourth of July is a time to celebrate the incredible freedoms we have in this country. There are so many places around the world that do not have the opportunities that we have in the United States. Each year this holiday provides the time to reflect and celebrate what it means to be American."
