Swimming Prohibited Today at Cedar Beach, Corey Beach and West Meadow Beach

Town Seal

Farmingville, NY – The Town of Brookhaven Parks, Recreation and Sports and Cultural Resources Department has announced that swimming is prohibited today, Wednesday, July 18 at Cedar Beach, Corey Beach and West Meadow Beach. The beaches remain open, but there will be no lifeguards on duty. The action was taken after the Suffolk County Department of Health issued an advisory “in response to events such as heavy rainfall that may pose a risk to public health. Under advisories, swimming and other means of water contact are not recommended. Advisories are typically issued for a 24-hour period to allow for sufficient tidal exchange to dilute any contamination that may be present.”

Swimming will be permitted at Cedar Beach, Corey Beach and West Meadow Beach on Thursday, July 19.
