Farmingville, NY – On August 7, Supervisor Ed Romaine (right) was at West Meadow Beach in Stony Brook to meet with Girl Scout Lauren Reitano (second from right), from troop 2547 in Centereach, while she installed Monofilament Recycling Receptacles for her Girl Scout Gold Award Project. They were constructed and installed by Lauren to provide a safe place for fishermen to properly discard their fishing line for proper disposal. Also pictured are Town Environmental Educator Nicole Pocchaire (left) and Lauren’s mother Robyn Reitano (second from left).

Supervisor Romaine said, “Installing the monofilament receptacles is doing a great service to the environment and protecting the wildlife in and around the water. Fishing line is one of the most frequent and hazardous forms of marine debris and I thank to Lauren for helping to prevent more plastics from getting into our waterways.”
