Town to Hold Annual Emergency Blood Drive on August 16 at Town Hall in Farmingville

Town Seal

Farmingville, NY – On August 16, Brookhaven Town will be holding an Emergency Blood Drive from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm in the second floor auditorium at Town Hall, One Independence Hill in Farmingville. The New York Blood Center has declared a blood emergency in the New York area and people are less likely to donate blood as schools are on summer break and families take vacations. The low levels are particularly dangerous during summer months. The event is co-sponsored by the Town and Long Island Blood Services (LIBS), a division of New York Blood Center, the nation's largest community-based non-profit blood collection and distribution organization. LIBS has been providing life-saving blood products and services to 50 hospitals throughout Nassau, Suffolk and Queens for close to 40 years. During the December 2017 blood drive, the Town marked the 5,700th person to donate blood at Town Hall since 2007.

The Town of Brookhaven holds three blood drives each year. For more information about blood donation and blood drives in your area, visit New York Blood Center website or call LIBS at 1-800-933-BLOOD (2566).
