Farmingville, NY – On Saturday, August 18, the Brookhaven Town Animal Shelter and Adoption Center will host the 4th Annual “Clear the Shelter” event with WNBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47. During the one-day event (10:00 am to 4:00 pm), the Town will waive the adoption fees and include free neuter or spay; vaccinations, microchip, license, heartworm test, flea and fecal. The Town currently has over 170 animals in the shelter. If adopters can't make it this Saturday, adoptions are only $65 for the entire month of August. Pictured left to right are adoptable dogs available at the Animal Shelter: Dante; Max; Orchid and Lotus.

Texas TV stations NBC 5/KXAS and Telemundo 39/KXTX ignited the spark for this event when they hosted the station’s first “Empty the Shelter Day” on August 16, 2014. On that day, 38 animal shelters in 31 North Texas cities participated simultaneously, making it the largest pet adoption effort ever held in North Texas. More than 2200 animals were adopted on that day, ranging from puppies and kittens to adult dogs and cats.

Those who are interested in adopting a dog or cat should visit the Brookhaven Animal Shelter and Adoption Center located at 300 Horseblock Road in Brookhaven. It is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information, please call 631-451-6950 or visit the Animal Shelter website at www.brookhavenny.gov/animalshelter.
