Farmingville, NY – On August 18, the Brookhaven Town Animal Shelter and Adoption Center hosted the 4th Annual “Clear the Shelter” event with WNBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47. During the one-day event, the Town waived the adoption fees and included free neuter or spay, vaccinations, microchip, license, heartworm test, flea and fecal. Texas TV stations NBC 5/KXAS and Telemundo 39/KXTX ignited the spark for “Clear the Shelter” when they hosted the station’s first “Empty the Shelter Day” on August 16, 2014. On that day, 38 animal shelters in 31 North Texas cities participated simultaneously, making it the largest pet adoption effort ever held in North Texas. More than 2200 animals were adopted on that day, ranging from puppies and kittens to adult dogs and cats.

If adopters could not make it to the event, adoptions are only $65 for the entire month of August. Those who are interested in adopting a dog or cat should visit the Brookhaven Animal Shelter and Adoption Center located at 300 Horseblock Road in Brookhaven. It is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information, please call 631-451-6950 or visit the Animal Shelter website at www.brookhavenny.gov/animalshelter.
