[ARCHIVED] Brookhaven Town Officials Announce Seizure of Roadside “Crack Pipe” Vending Machine in Coram

Crack Pipe Vending Machine Press Conference

Farmingville, NY – On September 10, Supervisor Ed Romaine and Councilman Michael Loguercio held a press conference to announce the seizure of a “crack pipe” vending machine located on the roadside in Coram. The Town had received complaints from residents and upon investigation, discovered the vending machine in the public right-of-way in front of the Coram Commons shopping center on Middle Country Road. The Town took immediate action and removed the vending machine which has been turned over to the Suffolk County Police Department (SCPD). A second machine was discovered in Coram and it will also be removed. The Town Law Department is continuing their investigation into the matter and will refer all findings to the SCPD.

Crack Pipe Vending MachineSupervisor Romaine said, “I applaud the immediate action taken by our Law Department staff who investigated the complaints and removed the vending machine. We are working with the Suffolk County Police Department to identify more locations and will cooperate fully to find those responsible and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.”Councilman Loguercio said, “On Friday evening, I received a call from the Assistant Chief of the Middle Island Fire Department, Matthew Gropper, with regard to what appeared to be crack pipe dispensers, disguised as pen dispensers. We immediately notified the authorities and the investigation began. My office along with the entire Town of Brookhaven will continue to work with the community and the Suffolk County Police Department, to make certain that these types of events do not occur in this town.”
