Farmingville, NY – On September 8, Councilwoman Jane Bonner attended the Coastal Steward Long Island “Toast to the Coast” thank you ceremony held at the Sound View Association Beach Pavilion in Stony Brook. During the event, awards were presented to volunteers who made a difference in 2018. The honorees included:Tom Vicale – Volunteer of the Year – Tom has participated in most of the organization’s programs this year, including Beach Cleanups, Oyster Restoration and Educational Field TripsEthen Nichols – Student Volunteer of the year – Ethen has participated in every Oyster program event this year.Mary Joy Pipe – Key Supporter – As owner of The East End Shirt Company in lower Port Jefferson, Mary Jo developed a program to let her customers know that their 5-cent bag charge would help the environment by donating the monies to Coastal Steward Long Island. She is also helping to get other businesses to participate.Councilwoman Bonner said, “Coastal Steward Long Island is a driving force for the protection and preservation of our waterways and I am grateful to all the volunteers for their efforts.
