Town Demolishes Burned Out House on Ashton Road in Medford

Supervisor Romaine and Councilman Loguercio infront of 26 Ashton Raod

Farmingville, NY –  On September 18, the Town of Brookhaven’s Recycling and Sustainable Materials Management Department performed an emergency demolition of a burned out “zombie house” located at 26 Ashton Road in Medford. The fire occurred on August 7 and was fully engulfed in flames when the Yaphank Fire Department arrived to extinguish the blaze. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire. The property owner is responsible for the cost of demolition.

Supervisor Ed Romaine said, “I commend Councilman Loguercio for his efforts to have this house demolished so quickly. An eyesore like this one is a danger to the people who live nearby, especially children who could easily enter the site. We are determined to clean up our communities and we will not tolerate unsafe houses in the Town of Brookhaven.”

Councilman Loguercio said, “The residents who live in this neighborhood work hard to maintain their homes and it’s important that we remove the ones that negatively impact their property values. This blight is gone, and I will continue to do everything I can to help clean up neighborhoods and protect the quality of life for the residents in my Council District.”
