Farmingville, NY –  On September 29, Supervisor Ed Romaine and Councilman Michael Loguercio visited Longwood Middle School to present a proclamation declaring the date, “Blessings in a Backpack Day” in Brookhaven Town. The event was held to educate the community about the work of the “Blessings in a Backpack” organization and celebrate its success at providing more than 300 weekend meals to Longwood children who might otherwise go hungry. This national not-for-profit organization feeds school children in the United States who currently are fed during the week by the federally funded Free and Reduced Meal Program. Its mission is to mobilize communities, individuals and resources to provide food on the weekends for elementary school children across the United States.
